HP Global Employee Relations Investigator: About the Role
HP is looking for an experienced Global Employee Relations Investigator to join its Human Resources team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working through complex workplace situations, supporting employees and managers, and finding fair and practical ways to resolve employee relations concerns.
As part of this position, you will handle employee relations investigations, advise HR teams and managers, support performance management, and help ensure that workplace decisions follow HP policies and applicable employment laws.
You will also play a part in improving the way HP manages employee relations globally. This may include looking at previous cases, identifying lessons that can be applied elsewhere, improving HR processes, preparing employee communications, and developing training for employees and managers.
Because many of the matters involved can be sensitive or complex, this role requires someone who can listen carefully, look at situations objectively, communicate clearly, and handle difficult conversations with professionalism and empathy.
Work arrangement: This is a flex role, and the successful candidate will be required to work from their designated HP office for at least three days each week.
HP Global Employee Relations Investigator: What You’ll Do
Handle Employee Relations Investigations
You will take the lead on employee relations investigations ranging from moderately complex cases to more challenging matters. This includes gathering and reviewing information, working with the right stakeholders, reaching well-supported conclusions, and making sure cases are handled and closed on time.
You will also help build and maintain knowledge around employee relations cases and processes so that HR teams can benefit from previous experiences and apply those lessons to future situations.
Support Disciplinary Decisions
You will review disciplinary situations and help assess the potential risks involved before recommendations are made. You will also help keep disciplinary policies, procedures, practices, and documentation current and consistent with HP’s approach.
Help Improve Employee Relations Practices
Employee relations practices need to evolve as workplaces, laws, and employee expectations change. In this role, you will review case studies and help identify ways HP can improve its global employee relations framework.
Your work may contribute to updates to HR programs, policies, procedures, processes, practices, and systems.
Keep Employees Informed
You will help create and deliver employee communications covering talent management initiatives, HR policies, programs, and employee relations topics.
The goal is to make important information easy for employees to understand, particularly when there are changes to policies, programs, or workplace practices.
Advise Managers on Performance Issues
Managers may need support when dealing with performance concerns or difficult employee situations. You will work with HR teams, managers, and supervisors to provide practical guidance on topics such as performance reviews, performance improvement plans, feedback, and challenging workplace conversations.
You will help managers approach these situations fairly, consistently, and respectfully.
Provide Expert Employee Relations Advice
You will act as a trusted advisor when complex HR concerns or escalations come up. This means helping HR teams and managers understand their options, evaluate potential risks, and determine appropriate next steps.
Your advice will need to balance employee concerns, business needs, HP policies, and applicable employment requirements.
Stay Current With Employment Laws
Employment laws and regulations can change, sometimes significantly. You will be expected to stay informed about relevant developments and help translate those changes into useful guidance for managers, employees, and HR professionals.
You will also help ensure that employee relations practices remain aligned with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Develop and Deliver Training
You will create and deliver training programs for employees and managers on topics that are important to maintaining a healthy and respectful workplace.
These may include:
- Diversity and inclusion
- Conflict resolution
- Workplace communication
- Workplace conduct
- Employee relations best practices
- Effective employee communication
You will also coach managers and help them become more comfortable handling employee relations situations and difficult conversations.
Work With Legal and HR Teams
Employee relations cases can involve several teams. You will work closely with employment law professionals, integrity councils, HR teams, and other stakeholders when reviewing investigation findings and deciding on appropriate HR recommendations.
This collaboration will help ensure that decisions are carefully considered and supported by the relevant facts, policies, and legal requirements.
Support External Proceedings
In some situations, employee relations matters may progress beyond the organization. You may represent HP in matters that are referred to tribunals, mediation, or other external proceedings.
You will help ensure that these matters are handled professionally and in line with HP’s position and applicable requirements.
Work With Employee Representative Groups
You will also support HP’s relationships with employee representative organizations, including works councils and unions, where applicable.
This involves working with internal stakeholders to manage these relationships responsibly and helping the organization navigate employee relations matters involving representative groups.
